Amy Salsgiver - percussionist, composer, improviser

Amy Salsgiver is a native of Cleveland, Ohio but has made Istanbul her home former than 15 years. She is a member of Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra, sa.ne.na percussion group, and Hezarfen Ensemble.
Amy is a co-creator of the Istanbul-based mostly-percussion group SA.NE.NA, which over its 10+ years has brought many major works for contemporary percussion to Istanbul audiences. Recent projects included their 10 year anniversary show, a collaboration with Slagwerk den Haag for Steve Reich's masterpiece "Drumming", and a fantastic performance and light installation of Michael Gordon's piece for 6 pieces of wood, "Timber".
As a founding member of the Hezarfen Ensemble, she has performed across Turkey and Europe, and continues to work closely with young composers to bring their works to life. She is also active in the free improvisation scene in Istanbul, as a solist and collaborating artist.
Amy holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music and a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Royal College of Music in London. She also holds a Masters Degree from Istanbul Technical University's Center for Advanced Musical Research (MIAM). Since 2011 she has been on faculty at ITU MIAM, as a lecturer in percussion, composition, and improvisation related courses. She leads the MIAM Percussion and Improvisation Ensembles, and performs with the MIAM Modern Music Ensemble.
Currently Amy is pursuing a PhD in composition, with a focus on the utilization of improvisational techniques.
